Welcome to our first UK Chapter newsletter
We want to take this opportunity to share some of the highlights from the year so far and give you an insight into what to expect from the UK Chapter and its Young Leaders over the next few months.
We kicked off 2017 with Predictions & Resolutions alongside guest speakers MP Penny Mordaunt, who was appointed Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work last year, Chris Urwin, leader of Aviva’s global real estate research team, and Julian Lyon, a director in Savills’ worldwide occupier team. Click here for their predictions.
The Young Leaders held an entertaining evening at The Old Truman Brewery at Junkyard Golf with all money raised going to our charity of choice, Noah's Ark. More networking events are scheduled over the next few months, including an interactive talk on Interpersonal Communication Skills Here from the President of the Young Leaders himself on the benefits of being part of the group here.
The Sustainability Committee hosted a successful round table event supported by the World Green Building Council on the delivery of health and wellbeing in offices. Hosted by Standard Chartered Bank, more than 80 attendees teamed up to discuss key factors influencing health and wellbeing in offices, including: indoor air quality; thermal comfort; lighting; interior layout; acoustics and management culture.Click here to view the event report The whitepaper is scheduled to launch soon.
One Big Day took place on Wednesday 8 March with over 200 attendees. Combining a line-up of A-list speakers with thought-provoking topics and trends, it proved that resilience can be found in the most uncertain of circumstances. From rogue bees to rainwater pods, obscured dependencies and growth mind-set, 3D printed limbs and access trumping ownership, and head-hunters and crocodile spirits, we covered it all! Look out for a full write up of the event on the UK Chapter website.
A distinguished panel from a range of different industries, including the John Lewis Partnership, CBRE and Shell, explored how and why Six Sigma is increasingly being adopted by Real Estate functions. The debate challenged its effectiveness and if the price is loss of innovation.
A Black Belt Negotiator Workshop with internationally acclaimed speaker, motivational coach and consultant Tom Flatau helped members break down the negotiation process examining where it can go wrong and how to replace bad habits.
Since the re-launch of the Chapter Communities last year, there’s been some great work undertaken by those leading the communities. Events to date have received consistent feedback that you as members are keen to see more relevant sector events. Expect white papers from the Workplace and Strategic and Portfolio Planning Communities in the next few months, as well as learning events from Strategic FM.
A review of the Workplace ‘Co-Working; what you need to know’ whitepaper has been published. It highlights how coworking is heavily susceptible to market conditions as the industry faces mounting competition, a volatile tenant base, few barriers to entry, and looming lease increases.
